Leningrad Nuclear Power Station
This project was co-funded by the CEC and the Finnish, Swedish and Canadian Governments under the offical title "Safety of Design Solutions and Operation of Nuclear Power Plants with RBMK Reactors".
I was the overall project manager and technical consultant in various areas for this complete review of the safety of the Russian RBMK (Chernobyl type) reactor system.
The project involved more than 180 people in 11 countries, costing 8.4M Euro plus contributions in kind from the non-EU partners. It was judged by the European Commission to be one of the most successful projects they had ever financed in the former Soviet Union.
The project looked at all aspects of safety of the 3 generations of RBMK reactors: there are 18 such reactors either operational or under construction at 5 sites in Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania, including Chernobyl.
